About Birth Announcements

It is said that happiness doubles when shared. No wonder, the birth of a baby is announced with much enthusiasm and pomp with the hope of probably tripling the happiness. Announcing the birth of babies, a tradition for many years now, can be traced back to the nobles of the 17th century. Those belonging to the royal class, especially Lords and Ladies, Dukes and Duchesses, announced the arrival of a baby in the family by delivering hand-written notes. Writing in those days was a privilege of the educated class and these hand-written notes informed and invited people to celebrate the arrival of the new member in the family. With the advent of the printing press, invitation cards were printed, instead of being hand written. Later, this developed into the trend of engraving announcements on metal plates, as the elite wanted to remain a class apart from the commoners '? even in their announcements. These days, one sees tissue or butter paper included in between two announcements, a practice to prevent the drying from smudging onto another announcement, while a tissue was used to prevent the smudging. Today, announcements have become comparatively innovative. Announcing by means of cards alone would be clich'┬ęd. Young and new parents are going the chocolate, toffee, and lollipop way to announce the arrival of their new bundle of joy. Access to the Internet has enabled new parents to send announcements across any part of the globe, without being restricted to their own regions alone. While some people get the announcements drafted and printed by professionals, most prefer doing them personally, at home.
