Aimed to be one of the world's leading providers of pediatric nutrition and pharmaceutical products, Enfamil is part of a family that has almost a 100-year history of innovation in baby nutrition products. Mead Johnson Nutritionals, the parent company was founded by Edward Mead Johnson in 1905, after leaving Johnson & Johnson to focus on his new venture. In 1911, Johnson, along with one of the leading pediatricians at that time introduced a new infant formula that combined dextrins and maltose which could be added to milk. This balanced and convenient formula named Dextri-Maltose was in the market for over 60 years. Then in the early 1920s, his scientists started producing a number of nutritional products which evidently were 'firsts' in their field. They include; Pablum, the first pre-cooked fortified cereal, Vi-Sols, the first water soluble vitamin supplement for babies, Nutramigen, the first protein hydrolysate infant formula, and Lofenalac, the first commercial dietary treatment for Phenylketonuria (PKU). Then in 1959 he developed Enfamil, a product that was closer than any other to breast milk. In 2002, LIPIL was introduced in the same line. It was a blend of DHA and ARA, essential nutrients that help in the development of the brain and eyes in infants. Another variant provided babies with iron, protein, calcium and over 20 vitamins. Mead Johnson Nutritionals' personal approach with doctors and mothers shows their commitment towards providing babies and infants with the best start in life. From the American continent to Asia Pacific and Europe, they are now the leaders in nutrition around the world. |
