The name Fisher-Price comes from 2 of the 3 owners, namely Herman Fisher, Irving Price and Helen Schelle. The company was founded in 1930 in the shadow of the Great Depression, when the 3 of them went to the International Toy Fair held in New York Coty with 16 toys. They started making toy dogs and still continue to do so decades later. In the 1960s, the company started their new line called 'Little People'. They had different models like school-buses and farms. The Quaker Oaks Company acquired Fisher-Price in 1969, and started manufacturing business-oriented products. The '70s got the 'Little People' to include the Sesame Street characters with Sesame Street buildings. In 1991, Fisher-Price split from Quaker and merged with Mattel. Mattel also acquired Tyco Toys in 1997 making Fisher-Price the umbrella name for all of Mattel's preschool and toddler toys. Fisher-Price also features Nickelodeon's Sponge Bob Square pants, Disney's Winnie the Pooh, and Nick Jr.'s Blue's Room toys among their products. They have also featured Warner Bros.' 'Krypto The Superdog' action figures and products. Fisher-Price also has 'Harley Davidson Motorcycles' themed tricycles for kids that come equipped with action sounds and flashing blinkers. The Little People toys included little wood and metal characters, which are now made of plastic. The originals didn't have arms and legs but are more defined in present versions and can also be used as finger puppets, with holes in the bottom. Fisher-Price also has a line of action figures featuring rescue service personnel.
