Many people are surprised at the strong preferences that many children have for a particular style of potty chair. What seems very important to a parent will not matter at all to a child, and vice-versa. Many parents try to choose the most practical potty chair, such as one that will convert to a potty seat or a stool. Other parents may want a cute potty seat that looks good in their restroom. What matters to children is different. When looking for an infant potty seat that your child will feel comfortable using, there are some specific things to look for. The potty should be low to the ground. Most children want to be able to put both feet firmly on the ground when they use the potty. The potty should also be very stable. Some cute or decorative potties may wobble a little when your child moves around. This feeling of instability will turn your child off from potty training. The potty chair should not break apart too easily. While this may make the chair easy to clean, it can also be scary for your child. Many times the chairs that break apart easily will slip and slide around, and make noise when your child sits on them. While this may seem like a small thing, for a child learning such an important new skill, it can be needlessly worrisome. When your child starts to show an interest in using the potty, you should also invest in a folding potty seat. This should go everywhere with you. This way you do not have to choose between letting your child attempt to use the regular toilet or telling them to use the diaper. A folding potty seat folds up and will fit in a diaper bag, and can be set right on top of a regular toilet. |
