About Plc

A programmable logic controller (PLC) is a small computer that is used in the automation of a variety of real-world processes, such as controlling machinery on an assembly line. In operation since the 1960s, the PLC was invented to replace the time-consuming series of relay circuits for machine control. The process was introduced by Bedford and Associates and proposed to a major automotive manufacturer. Allen Bradley, a division of Rockwell Automation, is a prominent manufacturer of PLCs.PLCs are now used in a variety of applications, including packaging, machining and automated assembly. The system works by studying the inputs, determining their state and turning them on or off depending on the program entered by the user. This process is responsible for creating more efficiency in a variety of commercial industries. A PLC consists of CPU, memory and circuits to receive data. The input relays are connected to the machine to receive signals from the sensors, while the output relays send signals to the sensors to turn them on or off. These two steps are critical to the job of the PLC. Although there are many small steps that go into making a PLC work, the three most important steps are: check input status, execute program and update output status. Once the PLC sends a signal to determine the state of the switches, a program is executed to update the switches to their appropriate on or off status. This process continually repeats itself and keeps the machinery running efficiently.
