Tracfone is a prepaid service provider (SP) in the US that provides its services for Nokia and Motorola phones. Tracfone is a sister concern of Am'©rica M'³vil, a Latin American wireless provider, formerly known as 'Topp Telecom'. Am'©rica M'³vil also operates another wireless service known as Net10 Wireless. A Tracfone customer, purchases, a phone set and the service together. The SP also supplies refurbished and re-sold Nokia and Motorola phones. The network type, on which the service is valid, includes CDMA, TDMA and GSM. Tracfone works as a mobile virtual network operator. Tracfone has collaboration with over 30 service providers, and re-sells networks built by these providers under its own name. When customers wish to subscribe for a Tracfone prepaid service, they need to follow certain procedures. To activate the service, customers first need to purchase the required talk time. On purchase, customers find a validation code number, to be entered in their cell phone. On entering the validation code, the service is activated and the customer can then, start conversing. The service comes with a validity period. Depending on the service opted for, the validity period could vary anywhere between one week to one year. When the service nears the end of its validity period, customers are expected to 'refill' their talk time. The balanced talk time from the previous period, gets added onto the new refill. Another instance of refilling the talk time is when the talk time hits zero. Tracfone offer additional schemes for its customers like Refer-A-Friend program, where on referring someone, the customer gets some talk time, free of cost. Such frequent offers and more, have made Tracfone a popular service provider. |
