Men's ClothingMen are stereotypically considered fashion-challenged. Yet with the advent of the metrosexual fashion paradigm, more and more men have become conscious of how they look. Lets review a few basic fashion do's and don'ts for men. First and foremost, don't try to update your wardrobe all at once--do so in doses. After all, unless you've suddenly come into money, it could ultimately cost you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to revitalize your closet completely. Taking your time gives you the opportunity to hunt out bargains on top quality pieces. In terms of staples, you might get one or two suits for formal occasions, like weddings, funerals, and business meetings. Go for wool suits--mavens suggest conservatively fitted and colored suits. Black suits and blue suits look good on a wide array of men. Adding pinstripes will give you an air of authority. In terms of shirts, diversification is the key. Experts recommend avoiding very loud patterns, unless you have an always-audacious personality, of course! This is not to say that you can't have fun with your wardrobe, however. If you want to spice up your outfit, you can do so one article at a time. For instance, to try out a crazy new pair of shoes, dress conservatively in all aspects but your footwear. You might be surprised at how much one detail can transform an otherwise bland look. If you are stumped about how to shop for clothing, go to the experts--your friends with great style. Stereotypically, women make better consulting partners than men for this job, but don't be afraid to buck the stereotype. Many shopping gurus recommend investing in pieces that will last for more than one or two seasons. For example, one or two really nice pairs of jeans designed with classic style and durable denim can keep you looking stylish for years. Companies like Seven, Diesel, and even Banana Republic manufacture wonderfully fitting jeans that come in a surprising variety of styles and washes, and are great places to start your shopping. |
