The Dansko Shoe Company began as the brainchild of two Danish horse trainers, Mandy Cabot and Peter Kjellerup. After working long hours in the barn, these trainers decided to develop their own shoes, which offered exceptional back support, comfort, and style. In 1991, this husband and wife dynamo patented their remarkably comfortable shoes and opened Dansko, Inc. Thanks to a remarkable marketing effort and the advanced quality of Dansko shoes, this small company soon became an international giant. Today, more than 3,500 outlets carry Dansko footwear. This unique Danish clog has won the seal of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA). This award is only given to shoes and products which promote excellent feet health. The original Dansko stapled clogs were released in 1991. This line featured hardbound soles, adaptable footbeds, and very slight heels. Like other Danish clogs, Dansko shoes offered durability and easy care. Starting in 2000, Dansko released a series of lines which won the adulation of critics and awards from associations like APMA. These shoes included Hampton, Beacon Hill, Sport Clog, and Bay Bridge. Dansko shoes have developed a cult following, as well. Since the company is so young, it is possible to collect every single line of shoe ever released. Be aware that it may take some time to break in your Dansko shoes. If you're used to walking on cushioned souls, your feet may feel sore after a few days of wearing clogs. Try to wear your Dansko shoes a few hours every day until you've broken them in. |
