About Nike Air Force Ones

In 1967, Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman joined forces to create Blue Ribbon Sports, the company that would later be known as Nike. The Nike name was inspired by the Greek goddess of victory. The swoosh was designed by a college student named Carolyn Davidson. By 1972, the first Nike shoes featuring the swoosh were worn by Olympic track and field hopefuls, and by 1974 the Waffle Trainer had become the best selling training shoe in the United States. Since those early days, Nike has been at the forefront of innovations in athletic shoes and sporting equipment. Nike was one of the first sporting goods companies to demonstrate the power of celebrity athlete endorsements. When tennis great John McEnroe wore a pair of Nike tennis shoes on the court, sales jumped from 10,000 pairs to over a million pairs of shoes sold. One of the most popular Nike shoes of all time is the Nike Air Force One. You may recall rap star Nelly singing about his preference for them in the hit song 'Air Force Ones.' Named after the jet that carries the president of the United States, these shoes were originally introduced in 1982. At that time they were the only basketball shoes to feature air soles. Others would follow, but Air Force Ones were the first. Over the years, Nike Air Force Ones have gone from being one of the top-rated shoes for performance to one of the most highly sought after shoes for fashion off the court. Special editions of the shoes have been introduced over the years, including commemorative Olympic versions, versions for cities like New York and Detroit, and celebrity athlete versions like the LeBron James edition. They originally came in low-top and high-top versions, with the mid-top version being introduced in 1994. You can also find different styles, including all-leather luxury models, designer-inspired models, and even models with jeweled swooshes.
