Probably no other release in recent times has created as much a sensation in children's literature the Harry Potter books, and the subsequent movies. The tale depicting the happenings in the life of the student wizard, Harry, at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was written by J. K. Rowling. In the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, during the time of joining, all the students were divided into four groups under different house names. A basic identification the students of each house had, to distinguish them from members of other houses, was the house patch, which they proudly wore on their robes.

Harry Potter was chosen to be a member of the Gryffindor house. The main image of the patch is the likeness of a lion representing the values the Gryffindor house stands for, which are bravery, honesty, and gallantry. The colors of the house are mainly composed of red and gold combinations, which link the house to the element of fire. The Gryffindor patch depicts a four quadrant shield, with an upright lion, having a curved tail. Above the shield, is a knight's armor faceplate, on top of which are three overlapping geometric figures; a triangle, a crescent moon, and a five-pointed star. Flame-like projections surround the entire image. Having a maroon and ivory-beige tinge, the Gryffindor patch, has an ornate design.
