The Jaguar XJ6 is a popular car model marketed by Jaguar since 1968. Owned by the Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Cars Limited is a luxury car line that competes with the likes of Mercedes Benz Cadillac and BMW, in the market. Following a series of mergers since its inception in 1922, Jaguar was finally floated off as a separate company in the stock market in 1984, prior to its takeover by Ford in 1989-1990. Since then, Jaguar has grown tremendously and enjoyed considerable success in the luxury car market with its considerable range of products and state-of-the-art production facilities. The basic style of the XJ6 follows that of a saloon or a sedan. The model soon replaced the other saloons offered by Jaguar in the market. Its engine was based on the XK engine. Initially, the variants were the 4.2 L 250-cubic-inch and the 2.8 L 170-cubic-inches versions. The Daimler Sovereign was introduced as an up-market version of the XJ6. In 1979, changes were initiated in the XJ model with the addition of a long wheelbase platform. Versions of the engines available then included the 3.4 L inline 6, 4.2L inline 6, and the 5.3L V12. In 1984, the Jaguar XJ6 was the only model that used the 2.9 engine that, unfortunately, functioned erratically. That year, the XJ6 range included the Sovereign and the sports model that featured intermittent wipers, electrically-operated driver's seat, door locks, and two electric mirrors. The model was also equipped with cruise control, a higher roof, a new grille and bumpers but no vent window post. The XJ6 enjoyed a highly successful run in the automobile market. Production of this model came to an end in 1997. |
