The Steinbach Nutcracker dolls are based on a holiday fairy tale about a young girl, Klara, and Christmas. The story revolves around Klara, who receives a Nutcracker Doll for Christmas, goes to sleep under the Christmas tree, from where her dream journey begins. In her dream, she gets kidnapped by the Mouse King. The Nutcracker Doll comes to the rescue and defeats the Mouse King; however while rescuing her from the arms of the Mouse King, he gets killed. Seeing the death of Nutcracker, Clara starts crying, and her tears bring Nutcracker back to life. The two of them start dancing, and the Nutcracker turns into a prince, and leads her into the land of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The people of Sugar Plum Fairy land dance for them, and Clara finally wakes up under the Christmas tree with the Nutcracker in her arms. Based on this story, Nutcracker Dolls are used as decorations around the tree and also protect and guard the presents under the tree.
