Tinker Bell is a fictional fairy described as a common fairy who fixes pots and kettles in J.M Barrie's play and consequent novel Peter Pan. She is known to be ill-behaved and revengeful at times, but is also kind and helpful. Tinker Bell is known to have feelings for Peter. Her erratic behavior is explained by the belief that a fairy's size stops her form having more than one feeling at any particular time. Tinker Bell made her first television appearance in Herbert Brenon's silent movie 'Peter Pan' in 1924; she was played by Virginia Browne Faire. Her character was also represented by actress Julia Roberts in Steven Spielberg's 1991 film, 'Hook'. Ludivine Sagnier played the role of Tinker Bell in P.J. Hogan's movie 'Peter Pan' in 2003. Disney modeled Tinker Bell in 1953 for an animated version of the movie. Disney used actress Margaret Kerry and Marilyn Monroe as references for the animators modeling Tinker Bell. She has become a mascot for Disney with appearances in commercials and program openings. She is also one of the Disney characters who appeared on the television series 'House of Mouse', and has also appeared in the video game series 'Kingdome Hearts'. Recently author Gail Carson Levine wrote the Tinker Bell book series 'Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg'. The cartoon character Tinker Bell has been characterized by illustrators Brian Froud, and Myrea Pettit. A bronze statue sculpted by Diarmuid Bryon O'Connor has been commissioned by Great Ormond Street Hospital who has the copyright for the character Tinker Bell. The statue is 9.5 inch wide and stands 7 inches tall and is known to be the smallest statue in the city of London. |
