When you buy the right memory and install it, your system should automatically acknowledge the upgrade.Every system will have a maximum memory that it can hold, so the most you want to buy is the difference between what the system can take and what you already have installed. If you are looking to buy a new system, make sure it can hold the memory you need to perform your favorite applications. Also, be aware that some systems can be upgraded one memory module at a time, while others need to be upgraded two or four at a time.
