Based in Texas, Dell designs and manufactures computer peripherals, software, PDAs, network switches, data storage devices, servers, and personal computers. The multi-million dollar company was established in 1984 by Michael Dell, a mere college student back then, under the name PC's Limited. Their first self-designed computer, called the 'Turbo PC', was launched in 1985, the same year Michael dropped out of college to run the company. The company grossed $6 million that same year. In 1988, the company changed its name to 'Dell Computer Corporation'. By 1992, Dell Computer Corporation was included in 'Fortune' magazine's list of the world's 500 largest companies. By 1999, Dell became the largest seller of personal computers in America and in 2005, they grabbed the first spot on 'Fortune' magazine's list of 100 of the most admired companies in the world. Dell utilizes a number of brand names under which it markets the majority of its products. These include 'OptiPlex', 'Dimension', 'Latitude', 'Inspiron', 'Precision', 'PowerEdge', 'PowerVault', and 'XPS'. Dell also markets computer parts and components including computer keyboards. Most Dell keyboards have 104 keys, though some models may also include 8 or more pre-programmed keys for media player controls. Additional features may also include a detachable palm rest and smart card secure PIN entry. All Dell keyboards are ergonomically designed. They feature connectivity technology and multi-interface capability. They often include one or more USB interfaces for hassle-free data transference. They support 3V, 5V, and 1.8V cards and include an automatic power shut down on removal of the card feature. Most keyboards utilize the spilt-key keyboard design and some are customizable in terms of allocation of certain functions to specific keys on the keyboard. Dell keyboards are also Macintosh and Windows compatible. The company also produces keyboards in bright colors including bright pink. |
