A prime manufacturer of innovative consumer products, Akai Electric Company, Ltd was founded in 1929. For eight decades now they have been one of the biggest revenue earners in the electronic goods market. Akai has been specializing in the electronic audio and video equipment, since their humble beginnings. Utilizing advanced technology, a blend of contemporary and traditional designs and highly acclaimed expertise, Akai has successfully created and launched some of the top audio video electronic contenders. They have created high definition television sets, DVD players, theater systems, VHS players, VCRs, micro systems, mini systems, and portable players. Akai's break through creation was the Akai GX reel to reel audio tape recorders, which till date are their highest sellers. Their most prominent products, the GX series, were reel to reel audio tape recorders, audio cassette decks, video recorders, loudspeakers, and tuners. Their most recognized open reel to reel models were the GX-747 and the GX-77; both models had an auto loading feature. Among notable cassette deck models there were the GX-F95, the GX-9, and the GX-R99, all of which came equipped with a three head close loop feature. The GX-77, an Akai star product was produced between 1982 and 1984. It included a unique 'Lambda Loading System', which allowed easy and effortless tape threading. The GX-747, a successor to the GX-646 is called the 10.5' inch version and was far more sophisticated than in predecessor the GX-646. Today collectors are taking a keen interest in the GX series. |
