iPaq 3700

One of the world's largest manufacturers of information technology products, Hewlett-Packard Company, is situated in Palo Alto, California, United States. The list of products developed and manufactured by HP, as it is commonly known, includes personal computers including desktops, laptops, and iPAQ series of handhelds/PDA, workstations and servers for the UNIX, Linux and Windows platforms, and peripherals such as printers, scanners, copiers, etc. The leading brands of consumer PCs available from the stables of HP are the HP Pavilion, and Compaq Presario series. The iPAQ handheld computing device was first developed and launched in April, 2000. The product was initially manufactured by Compaq Corporation; later acquired by HP. This series are advanced forms of a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) that support add-on modular accessories such as card reader, wireless networking, GPS, and even extra batteries. The series use proprietary Microsoft Pocket PC (Windows Mobile) OS or Windows CE and hence are also called as PocketPCs. The iPAQ 3700 was a successor to the iPAQ 3600 series with the only difference being the display screen. The 3700 had a 'semi-transmissive' STN LCD screen and only 32 MB RAM. The 3700 was built upon a 206 MHz StrongARM RISC processor at its core. It had 32 MB SDRAM as the system memory and 16 MB ROM with embedded OS and user applications. The display was a 12-bit Color TFT that supported a 240 x 320 pixels resolution at 4096 colors, and a 0.24-dot pitch pixel pitch. The TFT screen has a touchpad interface for interacting with the PDA. It used the Microsoft Windows PocketPC version as the core operating system. Productivity applications included Microsoft Pocket Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and Windows Media Player. The 3700 also sports Infrared, USB and Serial connectivity. A Lithium-Ion battery powers it for almost 3 hours on full charge.
