iPaq 3955

One of the world's largest manufacturers of information technology products, Hewlett-Packard Company, is situated in Palo Alto, California, United States. HP develops and manufactures products such as personal computers including desktops, laptops, and iPAQ series of handhelds/PDA, workstations and servers for the UNIX, Linux and Windows platforms, and peripherals such as printers, scanners, copiers, etc. The leading brands of desktop PCs available from the stables of HP are the HP Pavilion, and Compaq Presario series. The iPAQ handheld computing device was first developed and launched in April, 2000. The product was initially manufactured by Compaq Corporation; later acquired by HP. This series is an advanced form of a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) that supports add-on components such as memory card reader, wireless networking, GPS, and extra battery packs. The series use proprietary Microsoft Pocket PC (Windows Mobile) OS or Windows CE and hence are also called as PocketPCs. The iPAQ 3955 was a successor to the iPAQ 3800 series with the difference lying in the display screen and processor. The 3955 had a 'trans-reflective' STN LCD screen. The 3955 blazed on a 400 MHz Intel XScale processor. It had 64 MB SDRAM as the system memory and a 32 MB ROM with embedded OS and user applications. The display was a 16-bit Color TFT that supported a 240 x 320 pixels resolution at 4096 colors, and a 0.24-dot pitch pixel pitch. The TFT screen is a touchpad interface for interacting with the PDA. It used the Microsoft Windows PocketPC version operating system. Productivity applications included Microsoft Pocket Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and Windows Media Player. The 3955 sports Bluetooth 1.1, Infrared, USB, and Serial connectivity. It had an onboard SD/MMC Card Slot (SDIO) for reading external flash memory cards. A Lithium-Ion battery powers it for almost 5 hours on full charge.
