Tivo

Tivo is a digital video recorder that allows you to store television programming in an internal hard disk so you can watch it later. They work just like a VCR but use non-removable hard disk storage. The software that Tivo uses is far more advanced, it can record programs not only what the user has requested but even other programs that the user would be interested in. You can even 'pause' a program while watching it 'live', record and then watch it later. Tivo has a function called 'Season Pass' that lets you record an entire season of a particular show. There is a feature called 'Wish List' and it can be set according to which actor, director or category the programs fall in. The programs can be rated by users and these rating are fed into a database, then recommendations are made on particular TV shows. The Tivo Series2 units can be connected to a home network, so users can schedule recordings from an online website. TivoToGo allows users to record from their Tivo DVRs to a Windows PC and also files from the PC can be converted for playback on the DVR. Tivo Inc. was started by the vetrans of Silicon Graphics and Time Warner's Full Service Network in 1997. They are located in Alviso, California. Tivo has a number of third-party network content partnerships. Tivo users can also access Yahoo! Weather and Traffic, Photos, movie listings and Live365 music. Tivo also plans to offer broadband content delivery.
