There are two company stories that actually lead to the development of the Janome Sewing Machine Company as it is known today. The first starts in 1867 in Orange, Massachusetts with two men. Their names were William Barker and Andrew J. Clark. They began a sewing machine manufacturing company that later became known as New Home. This name was based on their two most popular products, the New England Machine and the Home Shuttle. On the other side of the world, in Tokyo, Japan, a company called Janome was founded in 1920 by Yosaku Ose. The name of his company, which means eye of the snake, derived from the round bobbins used in the machines the company manufactured. The Japanese manufacturers believed the bobbins looked like snake eyes. In 1960, the Janome Sewing Machine Company purchased the New Home Company and the New Home name brand of sewing machines. Today, the Janome Sewing Machine Company has divisions in many countries including the United States. Janome also manufactures robots. The company introduced its first computerized sewing machine in 1979. Since then, models have been developed, which surpass expectations and shock some of the other leaders in the industry. A couple of the most popular Janome Sewing Machine models include the Memory Craft 10001 and the Memory Craft 11000. Both of these machines offer sewing, embroidery and quilting function options. These are only two fine examples from the Memory Craft series. Other admired sewing machines by Janome include the Sewist 521, the Sewist 525 S and the 1600P High Speed Quilting and Sewing machine. |
