The appeal of Cabbage Patch Kids lies in their unique looks and personalities. The original Cabbage Patch Kids were hand sewn, making them truly one-of-a-kind works of art, but the mass produced retail dolls also maintain a level of individuality. Cabbage Patch Kids come with all types of skin tones, hair colors, eye colors and identities. Even though the retail line is formulaic, consumers still appreciate the dolls for having a wide range of personalities. There are many different lines of Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. The Kids are 22 inches tall with a vinyl face, yarn hair and a cloth body. The smaller versions of these dolls are the Newborns that measure 17 inches, and Preemies that measure 15 inches. With the exception of the Preemies, who are bald, the dolls come in many different combinations of hair color, length and style. An alternate line, known as Cornsilk dolls, features synthetic hair that owners can comb. Every Cabbage Patch Kid is an orphan in need of a family. All of the dolls come with an adoption certificate. Even the retail price of the doll is referred to as an adoption fee. Fans are encouraged to accept their Cabbage Patch Kids as a member of the family. Since the late 1980s, the doll line has continually expanded to include dolls of all types of skin tones and ethnicities. In fact, some of the earliest foreign dolls are popular collector's items. There is no shortage of Cabbage Patch Kids available for purchase today. Parents can purchase new dolls for children, and adults can recapture their youth by purchasing a new handmade original or a vintage doll. The value of a doll on the collector's market varies, depending upon its characteristics. For example, the value can change depending upon the type of head mold and hairstyle. Age and authenticity can be determined by the color of the Xavier Roberts signature printed on the left butt cheek of every doll. The signature on the earliest dolls is printed in black. Cabbage Patch Kids may always be known as a brand adored by both children and adults. |
