The Care Bears were originally created by American Greetings, and were printed on their greeting cards. Elena Kucharik is the name of the artist who created the characters. They then started making plush toys of the same characters in 1983. Every Care Bear can be differentiated by the color and the logo they wear on their tummies. There are ten original Care Bears; Good Luck Bear, Cheer Bear, Love-A-Lot Bear, Tenderheart Bear, Funshine Bear, Birthday Bear, Grumpy Bear, Wish Bear and Bedtime Bear. Along with them, are the Care Bear Cousins, who are other animals like monkeys and lions. The Care Bears live in Care-a-lot, their home in the Kingdom of Caring, while the Care Bear Cousins live in the Forest of Feelings. When on their missions, the Star and Heart Buddies take care of the Care Bears and the Cousins. The television series was aired from 1985 to 1988, while re-runs are still played on children's networks. Three feature films were also released, 'The Care Bears Movie', 'Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation' and 'The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland' in 1985, 86 and 87 respectively. The two new movies featuring the Care Bears are computer-animated, and are called 'Journey to Joke-a-lot' and 'The Big Wish Movie'. A variety of Care Bear toys are available, like the 'light-up' Care Bears. Besides the toys and the greeting cards, Care Bears also have their own special 'gummi bears', they are also featured on clothes, kids' bedroom accessories, and party supplies.
