Madame Alexander's Cissy doll celebrates her 50th anniversary in 2005. Cissy was the original grown up fashion doll, and her sense of style has always been sophisticated. Her fashions are like those worn by the most elite socialites. As Cissy turns 50, fans of the doll are reminded of the evolution of fashions over the past half century. The original Cissy doll was released in 1955 as a 21 inch doll. These vintage dolls are more curvaceous than their more recent counterparts, with a larger bust, waist and hips. Cissy's figure slimmed as fashion's beauty standard steered more towards the ideal exemplified by thin supermodels and Hollywood stars. The creator of the Cissy doll, Madame Alexander, envisioned her as an adult doll that would inspire young girls to grow up to be ladies. In honor of the 50th anniversary, a special edition Cissy doll has been released. The line consists of seven dolls wearing seven different styles. There are Latin American and African American versions of the doll included in the commemorative collection. This doll is a limited edition, with only 200 of each doll produced. Much like earlier limited edition Cissy collections, the 50th anniversary edition is sure to appreciate in value. The Cissy doll is made for fans of high fashion who appreciate mature, sophisticated dolls. Even at 50 years old, Cissy's features have maintained a classic look, while keeping up with current style trends. This doll will likely continue to captivate the hearts of doll collectors for another 50 years. |
