Ideal introduced the Revlon doll linein 1956. Her extreme popularity led a lot of other manufacturers to try to imitate the doll. There are many dolls that do not bear the marking that signifies that they are a Revlon doll, but are a perfect twin in every other respect. Many people have speculated that Ideal may have sold unmarked dolls to other stores or companies for distribution. With a ponytail or curly bob with bangs, Little Miss Revlon came in platinum blonde, medium blonde, red or dark brunette hair colors. She had perfect eyelashes (five for each eye) and rosy cheeks, red lips, fingernails, and toenails. She never missed an appointment at the hair salon and she obviously got frequent manicures, so Miss Revlon was a very glamorous doll. When a girl opened up a box that had Little Miss Revlon in it, be it at Christmas or on a birthday, she'd find the doll in a bra, elastic girdle, nylon stockings propped up in high-heeled shoes. To ensure that her appearance remained perfect, she wore a hairnet and drop pearl earrings. She was sold with various outfits as well, though they could be bought separately. To identify a Little Miss Revlon, she needs to have the marking, IDEAL DOLL/VT-10½', on the back of her neck and 10 1/2R' on the inside of her right arm at the top. Without these identifiers, it is hard to say if it is truly a Revlon. A copy or the real thing, Little Miss Revlon is a glamour queen. Revlon dolls were produced in 10', 15', 18', 20' and 22' sizes. |
