Brokeback Mountain is a controversial award-winning film that describes a romantic and emotional relationship between two men from 1963 to 1983. The movie has been adapted from a short story 'Brokeback Mountain' written by Annie Prolux. The movie released in 2005 and is directed by director Ang Lee. The film features actors Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Michelle Williams, Linda Cardellini and Randy Quaid. The plot of the movie revolves around the lives of Ennis del Mar played by Heath Ledger and Jack Twist played by Jake Gyllenhaal. These two young men meet on a sheepherding job on Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming. They fall in love in the year 1963 and the movie documents their complex relationship over the next twenty years. They fall in love one night when they spent the night together in a tent. Their love for each other deepens over the summer. At the end of their job, both Ennis and Jack part ways. Ennis goes back to his fianc'©e Alma Beers (Michelle Williams) and starts a family with her. Jack moves to Texas and marries rodeo princess Laureen Newsome (Anne Hathaway). The two men reunite four years later and their passion rekindles. Jack wanted them to start living together on a small ranch; Ennis refuses as he had witnessed the torture and murder of a gay man in his hometown and feared that this arrangement could only end in tragedy. The story revolves around the struggles of these two men and how they try to survive in a society that is utterly intolerant towards homosexuality. Brokeback Mountain was honored with Best Picture and Best Director awards from the BAFTA, Golden Globe Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and Independent Spirit Awards amongst others. Brokeback Mountain had the most nominations (eight) at the 78th Academy Awards, where it won three: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score.
