Madame X

If you watch enough television, you've probably seen the cult classic Madame X starring Lana Turner and John Forsyth. The rights to this version were sold in 1967. At that time it earned the highest ratings of any motion picture shown on television, and forty years later, it continues to be shown on TV on a regular basis.At least two other movie version of Madame X exist including the original 1929 version starring 'talkie' star Ruth Chatterton, and the 1937 version starring Gladys George. While she didn't earn an Oscar nomination for the role, she did earn a devoted fan base and the admiration of her peers. Lana Turner fans say her turn as Madame X was one of the best performances of her life.Madame X is the story of Holly Anderson, a lonely diplomat's wife who is seduced by the charming Phil Benton, played by Ricardo Montalban. The plot takes a dramatic turn when Holly's Latin lover takes a nasty fall. Holly's mother-in-law knows of the affair and forces her to either face the rap for the murder or leave the country. Holly makes a tough choice, and decides to leave the country for the good of her husband and young son.In Europe she falls into a life of booze and prostitution. Then she travels to Mexico where she meets Dan Sullivan, a con artist with devilish intentions. She ends up on trial for Dan's murder. Her adult son is assigned to her case--unbeknownst to either of them. There are enough twists and turns and tear-jerking moments to make this film a must-have for classic Hollywood enthusiasts and Lana Turner fans alike.
