The popular CBS television show, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, has endured over the years, thanks in large part to internet fans who keep the show alive through countless websites, blogs, and trivia games. The original series lasted five years, from October 1983 to May 1987, and CBS ultimately aired 88 episodes--just 12 short of the hundred necessary to make Scarecrow one of the elite '100 episode' dramas. Scarecrow and Mrs. King was ostensibly a cold war morality tale, in which a secret agent and a nosy housewife cooperate to bring down foreign foes. However, it also became a commentary on the cultural forces shaping the American landscape during the mid 1980s. Bruce Boxleitner starred as Scarecrow, while Kate Jackson was featured as Amanda King. Bruce Boxleitner earned notoriety during 1984 as the titular character in the breakout Disney movie, Tron. Kate Jackson built on her reputation as one of the Charlie's Angels sweeties to move the show forward. Scarecrow and Mrs. King also benefited from solid supportive performances from people like Mel Stewart, who played Billy Melrose, and Greg Mortan, who starred as Jamie King. Show creators Eugenie Leming and Brad Buckner went on to have lengthy producing careers. The subtle nature of the relationship between Jackson and Boxleitner's characters became eviscerated over the years. By the final episodes, Scarecrow and Mrs. King were secretly married. |
