'The Sopranos' is a popular Emmy-winning television drama series that deals with the fictitious lifestyle of a mafia family operating from New Jersey. The DiMeo crime family has Italian-American roots. The nudity, violence and rough language has caused this series to get an adult rating. The show focuses on the problems and conflicts faced by Tony Soprano, the head of this mafia network. The basic area of conflict is that of reconciling his duties as the leader of the mob with his responsibilities toward his family. 'The Sopranos' has had a successful run for six consecutive seasons. David Chase is the creator of this drama series which has won several Emmy awards, especially for the acting performances over the years this show has run. In 2004, 'The Sopranos' won the Emmy for the Best Drama Series as well as three other Emmy awards. The show is a production of Brad Grey Television and Chase Films of HBO. James Gandolfini plays the lead role of Tony Soprano, and Edie Falco is his wife, Carmela, in the show. Other significant roles are those played by Lorraine Bracco and Michael Imperioli. The series has been strongly influenced by mafia movies such as 'The Godfather' films, but is still able to maintain its unique style. The ignorance of the mobsters is portrayed comically in this show. The entire first season is available in DVD format. This collection includes the first 13 episodes of 'The Sopranos'.
