About Lil Kim

Born as Kimberly Denise Jones on July 11th, 1975, Lil Kim was raised in Brooklyn, New York along with her older brother Christopher. The Jones family was shattered by a divorce that forced Kimberly and Christopher to stay with their father Linwood Jones. Kimberly constantly fought with her dad and finally left home and started living on the streets. She eventually met her mentor and father figure Christopher Wallace better known as rapper 'The Notorious B.I.G'. He encouraged her to pursue a rapping career and made her a member of rap group 'Junior M.A.F.I.A' under Undeas label. After almost a year with 'Junior M.A.F.I.A', Lil' Kim released her solo album Hard Core in 1996. The album became a commercial success and debuted at #11 on the Billboard charts. It was collaboratively produced by P.Diddy, Jermaine Dupri, Prestige and High Class. Lil' Kim sang a duet with P.Diddy in the lead single 'No Time' that made it to the #1 on the Rap charts. She earned her first Grammy nomination for the song 'Not Tonight (Ladies Night)'. In 1999, she launched her own label Queen Bee Entertainment. In 2000, her long awaited second album was released 'Notorious K.I.M' that featured a totally revamped look for this rapper. It debuted at #1 on the Rap charts. In 2001, 'Lady Marmalade' a collaborative song by Lil' Kim, Christina Aguilera, Pink and Mya hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts making Kim the first ever female rapper in history to hold the #1 spot and also winning her a Grammy. In 2005, she was convicted of perjury and sentenced to serve one year and a day in the Philadelphia Detention Center. During the course of her sentence she wrote over 200 songs and also released her fourth album 'The Naked Truth' that earned 5 star rating from the Source exalting her as the first female rapper to accomplish such a rating.
