Shirley Jane Temple shone both as a child actress, as well as an American diplomat. She was born to banker George Francis Temple, and Gertrude Amelia Krieger on April 23, 1928. She began her career in movies at the age of three and excelled in acting, singing as well as dancing. At the age of 6, she won a special Academy Award, for the movie 'Bright Eyes'. Her performance in the movie; 'Stand Up and Cheer' became very popular helping sell millions of dollars worth of products; from dolls, mugs, phonograph records, hats, dresses. She ruled the box-office star in the United States, for four consecutive years. Along with films, Shirley Temple promoted various products; including numerous Ideal's Temple dolls dressed in costumes from her movies, a line of hair bows and girl's dresses, and two cocktails named after her. She received the Screen Actors Guild's most prestigious honor, on September 12, 2005 - The Lifetime Achievement Award. Even today, her films continue to be popular among young boys and girls. |
