Sophie Marceau is a French actress born on November 17, 1966. She was born as Sophie Dani'¨le Sylvie Maupu in Paris, France. She grew up with her father who was a truck driver by profession. She was always far away from the film studios in France. Sophie began her acting career at the age of 14, when she featured as a teenager in the movie 'La Boum' by Claude Pinoteau, which released in 1980. Her role in the movie immediately raised her to teen idol status in France and many other European countries. She won the Cesar Award for ''Most Promising Actress'' in 1983; this award is the French equivalent to an Oscar. She then starred in the sequel to the movie 'La Boum 2' which released in 1982; this boosted her career even further. At age 18, she acted alongside actors G'©rard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve in the movie 'Fort Saganne' which released in 1984. In the same year, she acted in another movie 'Joyeuses P'¢ques' co-starring Jean-Paul Belmondo. She also acted in a number of Movies directed by Andrzej Zulawski such as 'L'Amour braque' (1985), 'Mes nuits sont plus belles que vos jours' (1989), 'La Note bleue' (1991), and 'La Fid'©lit'©' (2000). She became a Hollywood superstar when she played the role of Princess Isabelle in the Hollywood blockbuster 'Braveheart' which was directed by Mel Gibson and released in 1995. She has also acted in other Hollywood blockbuster films such as 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' (1999), and as Bond girl/villain Elektra King in the James Bond film 'The World Is Not Enough' (1999). Sophie was honored with the 'Best Director' award by the jury members of the Montreal World Film Festival for the movie 'Parlez-moi d'amour' starring Judith Godr'¨che in 2002. She did try her hand previously at direction with a nine-minute short film called 'L'Aube ' l'envers' also starring Judith Godr'¨che. |
