Althea Rae Duhinio Janairo is an American actress, and model born on January 2, 1967. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and is of Filipino, Chinese, and Spanish origin. Her childhood dream was to make it big as a singer. Tia Carrere made her acting debut in the b-movie Zombie Nightmare where she played the role of a teenager involved in a murder. After relocating to Los Angles, she started her modeling career during which she starred in the soap opera General Hospital for two years from 1985 to 1987. Tia made a guest appearance as a sexy karate instructor on the show MacGyver. She acted in the action film 'Harley Davidson' and the 'Marlboro Man' which released in 1991. She rose to stardom as the character Cassandra in the movie 'Wayne's World' released in 1992. She also starred in the sequel to the movie the following year and also performed her own songs in both the movies. Tia Carrera has played the role of villain Juno Skinner in the action movie 'True Lies' which released in 1994. She has also acted in the movie 'The Immortals' as Gina Walker released in 1995 and in the 1996 film 'High School High', where she plays the role of secretary Victoria Chapelle. Tia Carrera starred in the action-adventure series 'Relic Hunter' as Professor Sydney Fox, from 1999 to 2002. She has also lent her voice to the animated movies 'Lilo and Stitch', and 'Duck Dodgers'. Tia Carrera launched her singing career with her first solo album entitled 'Dream' which released in 1993. Her vocals have been featured on the Batman: Mask of the Phantasm soundtrack where she performed the song 'I Never Even Told You'. Tia Carrera was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in August 2003. |
