An armoire is a large, often ornate cabinet. Before the introduction of the closet, clothes were kept in wooden cabinets, such as armoires. Although today closets are generally used for this function, armoires are still a pretty, practical choice not just for storing clothes but also items like jewelry, television and computers. An elegant, ornate armoire becomes the focal point of the room by virtue of its look and size. A tall ornate, armoire can add to the architectural interest of the room and help bridge the gap between furnishings and ceiling in tall rooms. Antique armoires very often have intricate designs and add a 'classy' look to the room. However antique armoires are expensive and it is difficult to find a well maintained piece. Although initially armoires were used to keep clothes, they have recently been adapted to hold televisions, computers, and other electronic equipment. These armoires generally have doors that hide the equipment when not in use. Jewelry armoires come in varying heights. They have stacked drawers to store jewelry boxes and articles of jewelry. Some have hooks, to hang long necklaces and chains. Jewelry armoires come in a range of styles. A few are unisex jewelry boxes, suitable for a man or a woman. Doll armoires make a wonderful addition to the children's rooms. Doll armoires are small sized armoires used to store toys, shoes and other small children's items. |
