Just as all small pets aren't created equal, neither are their cages. Parrots are very playful creatures that love to climb and chew on things. For this reason, a parrot cage is typically designed with both horizontal and vertical bars so the parrot can scale the side of it. In addition, the bars should be coated with a non-toxic substance so your parrot won't get sick as it gnaws on the sides of the cage. If you don't like the look of traditional metal bird cages, there are a lot of parrot cages that have outer facades made out of wood. These birdcages can then be painted or finished to match your d'©cor. However, the inside is still made out of metal and wire so the parrot has something to climb on. For easy clean up, look for a cage with a removable bottom tray. Ferrets, on the other hand, like to run around. Of course this is not always possible, so make sure their cages are as large as possible. To give them enough space to roam, consider buying a two- or four-story ferret cage and hang a hammock in the cage for them to nap or sleep. No matter its size, keep in mind that all caged animals need exercise. As such, make sure you include in your list of pet supplies a few toys to keep them active. Bird baths and perches are good things to get your parrot, whereas your ferret will enjoy a ball with bells attached to it. Hamsters or gerbils will often play on wheels for activity. |
