Fold-out couches and futons double as beds, perfect for those in studio apartments or those who want to offer guests a place to spend the night. Sectionals are becoming increasingly popular, since they offer maximum flexibility without compromising on size or comfort. One thing to keep in mind, though, is how many corner pieces the sectional comes with, since this will determine how many configuration options you'll have. The design and construction of your couch is also worth keeping in mind. While attached pillow back models can be convenient (you never have to fluff or rearrange these cushions), a loose pillow back offers a bit more flexibility. Also think about the couch arms; rolled arms tend to be comfortable and casual, while armless couches are a bit sleeker and more refined. Curved couch arms are somewhat of a compromise between these two styles.Finally, when purchasing a couch, consider the material and the design. Leather is attractive, durable, and of high quality, but is more expensive and high-maintenance than fabric, which can be more easily and inexpensively cleaned. One of the most popular options is microfiber (including microsuede). Microfiber is known for being easy to clean and also offers a soft, luxurious texture. Finally, consider a slipcovered couch. The benefits of slipcovers include being able to change the look of the couch regularly and easy cleanup should spills or stains occur. If a low-maintenance couch is your goal, be sure to look for machine washable slipcovers.
