Hammock Chair

The hammock is made up of cloth or a network of rope that is stretched and secured between two firm points and is used to rest or sleep in. The hammock was developed in the Caribbean and is seen in almost all homes in the Yucatan. Hammocks are believed to have arrived in the Yucatan from the Caribbean before the Spanish conquest. Hammocks are made of a variety of materials. The quality of the hammock greatly depends on the type thread and the number of threads used. Mayan hammocks are made on a loom and are hand woven by men, women, and children. Hammocks are traditionally made in and around the capital city of Merida and are sold locally and exported globally. A wide range of hammocks are available such as rope hammocks, quilted fabric hammocks, Mayan, Brazilian, or Nicaraguan hammocks, poolside hammocks, camping hammocks as well as portable hammocks. There are hammocks that are made of thin and lightweight materials that make them ideal to carry around. Hammock chairs are a type of hammock wherein the design and look of the hammock is like a chair. These hammocks are generally used by individuals to sit rather than sleep as would be the case with a standard hammock. Some of these hammock chairs are fitted with cushions for that added comfort. Hammocks are known to be made traditionally in the Caribbean; however companies such as EWINS and the Outdoor Chair Company make hammock chairs on a commercial basis. Hammocks are so versatile that they can be setup almost anywhere. They have also been used by sailors on ships. As the hammock moves in tandem with the motion of the vessel, it reduces the chances of the sleeper being thrown onto the floor. These days, designer hammock chairs are made, which add that extra touch of elegance to the already comfortable hammock.
