Kids' sheets should be purchased just like adult bedding--look for a great value alongside comfortable fabric. Polyester and cotton blends are fine, but be careful with 100 percent polyester sheets. Because of the man-made fibers, these sheets are not always as 'breathable' as cotton or cotton-blend sheets. This may cause your child to sweat during sleep. For premium comfort, most pediatric experts recommend 100 percent cotton or cotton-blend sheets. Cotton allows even warmth with a more porous material that can help your child maintain an even body heat during sleep. Cotton is also thought of as a more comfortable material for children and adults alike. As far as wear is concerned, both cotton and polyester sheets can be machine washed and dried. Both fabrics are wrinkle-resistant and will stand up to the test of even the roughest child's play time. Also, pay attention to thread count. This is the number of threads per square inch of fabric. Cotton sheets with thread counts much above 400 will wrinkle much more than those with a lower thread count. If wrinkles aren't an issue for you, this isn't a big deal; but for those parents who prefer sheets with lower maintenance, those with a threat count between 175 and 250 are ideal. Jersey knit cotton, or 't-shirt' cotton, sheets are a great option, too. Soft and very durable, these sheets are very wrinkle-resistant and will feel smooth against your child's skin. These sheets come in a variety of colors and patterns to match any kid's room décor. They can be purchased at any major retail or online outlet and cost between $15 and $40 a set in most markets, including the fitted sheet, flat sheet, and pillowcases.
