A queen-size bed is typically 60 inches wide by 80 inches long--large enough for two people to comfortably share, but small enough to fit into most bedrooms. Queen sheets typically involve a top sheet, and a fitted sheet that is elasticized to 'hug' the mattress. Instead of a fitted sheet, some choose to buy two flat sheets and tuck one around the mattress using hospital corners. These days there are a startling number of beds sheets from which to choose from crisp cotton and flannel to rich silk and satin fabrics. While 100 percent cotton queen sheets are prized for their softness, many prefer a cotton-poly blend for durability and few wrinkles. Queen sheets are available individually, or they can be bought in sets: usually a flat sheet, fitted sheet, and pillowcases wrapped up in one simple package. Always consider the threadcount of the sheets you choose. High threadcount sheets are considered more comfortable and of better quality, but there is no need to go overboard with trying to buy the highest threadcount sheets available. Threadcount can go as high as 800 or 1,000, but 180 to 200 is considered a good threadcount, with the 200 to 400 range being luxury for most people. Designer sheets are available from a variety of design houses and are excellent for making your bedroom into a stylish retreat. If you decide to purchase designer queen sheets, consider purchasing the rest of your bedding collection from the same designer. To complete your bedding ensemble, you can choose a duvet cover, bedskirt, pillow shams, and throw pillows to match. |
