About Veneer

Veneer is a thin slice of wood, not more than 3 millimeters in width. First used by ancient Egyptians for their furniture, today it is used by manufactures, cabinet makers, joinery industry, interior designers, and architects in the making of cabinet interiors and exteriors, desk and table tops, kitchen tops, doors, draws, furniture, shelves, parquetry, and wall paneling. Veneer is used for certain items because it gives the object a durable and strong look and enhances the value of its durability and sturdiness. Layers of veneer are usually pasted on to the item using super strong glue. Plywood is made by pasting layers of veneer together, the more the layers the more strong and durable the plywood becomes. The trunk of a tree is 'peeled' to obtain veneer. The grain patterns on veneer depend on the method of 'peeling' and the species of tree trunk; hence veneer is available in different textures and patterns. Veneer is classified into two types, namely 'flexible' and 'standard'. Standard veneer takes up more effort for preparation for flattening, and taping the sheets before gluing them down; whereas flexible veneer offers the merits of ease of application, flexible burls, and ready finish. Presently, veneer popularity can be attributed to the rich and lustrous look it gives to any piece of furniture it's used on. Hugely popular in interior d'©cor, veneer can be used domestically or on office premises.
