This vein, known as the 'vena amoris' or vein of love, connected the left ring finger directly to the heart. It wasn't until the late 1800s that the diamond wedding ring grew in popularity. Even though the tradition of offering a diamond ring began in the 1400s, diamonds were not readily accessible. In 1870, African diamond mines made it possible for the public to share in the splendor.

Diamonds are still considered the rarest of stones. They come in a variety of colors ranging from colorless or white to deep red. Cuts are available in a wide range of styles including round, princess, oval, marquis, pear and tear drop.
