The Seiko Sportura is a watch designed for race car drivers and pilots--or those who want to look like race car drivers and pilots. Seiko's slogan for the Sportura is 'One part stainless steel, two parts testosterone.' The Sportura comes in three series: alarm chronograph, kinetic chronograph and dual display chronograph. Alarm chronograph model SJ007 displays month, date and day with 12- or 24-hour changeover. It has a one-channel world alarm, city name display, time difference display, time transfer function and automatic daylight savings time adjustment. The chronograph can measure up to 100 hours in 1/1000 second. It has a glare-resistant sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 100 meters. The kinetic chronographs do not use batteries. Instead, the watch is powered by the movement of the wearer's arm. A pendulum inside the case is set in motion when the wearer moves. The pendulum is geared to a small pinion, which spins the pinion at up to 100,000 rpm. The pinion is connected to a miniature electrical generator, and energy is stored in an accumulator. There is an overcharge prevention and an energy depletion warning. A charge can last from one to five months. Dual display watches have both analog and digital functions for high visibility in sport situations. Models SNJ017 and SNJ018 have rotating bi-directional navigational slide rule bezels and can make fuel consumption and flight climb calculations. They also have many of the features of the alarm chronograph, such as a time transfer function. |
