The bows and arrows were primitive weapons used for warfare in ancient and medieval times. They are nowadays also used for hunting, leisure, and sports. The arrow is a pointed projectile released from the bow to cause maximum injury or death to the intended victim. They are made of a long and thin shaft, traditionally made of wood; however aluminum or carbon fiber composite is often used in these weapons. Bows and arrows are prominently featured in the history, literature, and religion of ancient civilizations. The pointed wedged shaped tip of an arrow is made of stone or metal and is called the arrowhead. They are sometimes detachable from the main shaft of the arrow. It is the arrowhead which make the arrow an aerodynamic and dangerous weapon capable of inflicting maximum damage on the animal or human being which they strike. The main kinds of arrowheads used in medieval times for warfare were the broad-head, the swallow tail, and the bodkin varieties. The tar and pitch arrows were useful for causing arson in the enemies camps. Several razor-sharp blades about an inch thick can be found on modern arrows. The arrowheads used by ancient tribes, have become valuable artifacts and they can be found in museums worldwide. The Native American (Indian) arrowheads and the flint arrowheads are vintage items sought by those who appreciate the greatness of the distant past. Arrowheads of different dimensions and designs can be purchased online and in stores in the U. S. |
