Badges

A badge is a patch that is displayed to annotate some feat of service, a symbol of accomplishment, as a symbol of authority or as a simple means of identification. The badges that are used for military purpose are often used to denote the qualification received through military training. Similarly badges used in scouting organizations are used to show group membership and rank. One of the best known badges is the typically star-shaped U.S sheriff's badge. Badges have become highly collectible e.g. the BBC children's program Blue Peter, awards its own 'Blue Peter badge' to the member of the Public who appear on the show, and yet another example would be the Badge Collectors circle. There are case badges that are about 3mm thick, and also stickers that are around 3cm x 3cm, Lucites that are often packed with various parts of computers such as processors and Video cards. Now a days many of the organizations provide their employees with badges for identification. Name batches are also highly used in hospitals and schools often known as 'identity cards'. Badges can be made from a wide variety of materials such as metal, plastic, rubber, leather and textiles. Textile badges are either woven or embroidered. There are badges in different colors with different designs that are pinned up on the school bags, handbags etc. They come in different sizes as well small badges that can be pinned up on small laples and larger badges for backpacks etc. With the help of advancement in computers, it is quite common to get badges with family photos on them.
