Blazer

A blazer is a kind of jacket, which may be double breasted or single breasted. A blazer is often a part of the official uniform for airlines, schools, hotels, security, and other organizations. A blazer looks like a suit jacket, however it has pockets without flaps, and notch lapels and metal shank buttons. It is also more durable than a suit jacket. Blazers were first known to have been worn by the oarsmen of the Lady Margaret Boat Club, in Cambridge. These oarsmen were said to be appear 'ablaze' in their red summer jackets. There are several other etymology explanations. The word could have been derived from the practice of attaching the symbols or logos of school, regimanet, or club, to the breast of the coat, thus 'emblazoning' the coat. Or, the word may have been derived from the double breasted jackets worn by the sailors aboard the ship HMS Blazer, in preparation for an inspection by Queen Victoria. Most blazers are navy blue; however more modern ones are available in all colors and combinations, from solid colors to stripes. Blazers are available in different sizes, both for men and women. Celebrities have been known to wear blazers on screen and off screen. Actors in American television soaps, such as X-Files, and The Practice, wear blazers with pant suits.
