About Chevy

Chevrolet, also colloquially known as Chev or Chevy, is a division of General Motors that manufactures automobiles. The brand manufactures a variety of vehicles ranging from compact cars to large SUVs. Chevrolet was founded by Louis Chevrolet, a racecar driver, and William C. Durant, founder of General Motors. Surprisingly, William Durant was forced out of General Motors in 1910. This is when he thought of using Louis Chevrolet's designs and thought of building his reputation again. Chevrolet entered the automobile market on November 3, 1911. The next year the company launched the 'Classic Six', a sedan installed with 299 cu. in., six-cylinder engine that could achieve a top speed of 104 km/h. The firm became profitable enough to buy majority of GM's shares. In 1917, Durant became president of GM and Chevrolet became a part of the GM. The 265 cu. in. V8 engine was introduced in Chevy's cars in 1955 and was offered with three versions. Chevy next introduced a power packed engine that could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just about 8.4 seconds. The next year, the 225 hp engine was available with an option of two 4 bbl. Carbs. In the year 1957, the engine displacement was increased by 283 cu. in. and could generate 283 hp. and the cars manufactured by Chevrolet offered 290 Horsepower in 1958. Some of the car models manufactured by Chevy include Corvette, BelAir, Camaro, etc. Chevrolet also manufactures buses which are sold under the label of minibus, futurliner, etc.
