City

Mostly, cities are developed areas with high population; this is what separates them from town, village, or a hamlet. Other features that distinguish a city are size of the land, legal status, and importance. This is an urban area that has developed infrastructure, buildings, industries, and business areas. Mostly, cities are found near rivers, lakes, etc that makes it convenient for water transport, thus, increasing the business, and developing the economy of the land. However, in the United States many areas that are modest in population are considered to be a city. These are either referred to as 'downtown' or as 'suburbs'. Public transports, roads, streets, housing form a primary part of the infrastructure of cities. Ancient European cities were not planned well and were jumbled up. After, the advent of automobile cities were more planned, thus, are more expensive in execution. These roads are not very feasible for pedestrians, whereas ancient European cities have made become more picturesque and were more convenient to navigate with foot. Usually, grid pattern, followed by the Romans, is preferred for planning a city. A 'global city', also known as the 'world city', have emerged as important trade centers, banking, and finance centers, innovation, market centers, etc across the world. Some such global cities are New York, London, Paris, Tokyo etc. These cities are more expensive than most of the cities around the globe. They are considered to be extremely powerful, and influential. Global cities are further classified into Alpha World Cities that include Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Milan, Chicago, and Singapore and Beta World cities that include San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto, and Zurich.
