David Hamilton is a renowned British photographer who has worked for magazines such as 'Elle' and 'Queen'. His unique style of his work made him very popular and his photographs were much in demand, especially with publications such as 'Photo' and 'Realites'. Hamilton's recognizable work has been surrounded with much controversy, treading as they do the fine line between sensual art and obscenity. The photographer settled down in Paris after World War II. Working in France since then, he has gradually developed into an exceptional photographer. Publication of his photo books and distribution of his films has further enhanced his reputation. The artist was born on April 15, 1933. He spent his early years in London. He was recruited as a soldier during the Second World War, and completed his schooling at the end of the war. Hamilton found employment in an architect's office where his skills gradually drew attention. It was at the early age of twenty that he became a graphic designer for 'Elle Magazine'. The magazine 'Queen' hired him as art director after his initial success. On returning to Paris, he was hired by Printemps, a renowned department store. Hamilton's initial photographs were coarse and abstract in nature. His works were soon exhibited at various art galleries and museums. Several magazines too began publishing his photographs. The artist has enjoyed tremendous success as an art photographer. He is married to model Mona Kristensen. He has made such films as 'Bilitis', 'Tendres Cousines', and 'A Summer in St. Tropez'. His books include 'Dreams of a Young Girl', 'Souvenirs', 'Sisters', 'Twenty-Five Years of an Artist', and 'The Age of Innocence'. |
