Diamond

A diamond is said to be a woman's 'best friend'. Mysteries have surrounded diamonds since the centuries; battles have been won, and lost, for diamonds. A diamond is very precious and perhaps one of the most expensive gemstones found on earth. It is also the hardest substance known to man. Hence, the proverb 'only diamonds can cut diamonds'. A diamond is formed due to carbon bearing materials being subjected to high amounts of temperature and pressure deep within the earth's crust. The longer and more it is subjected to pressure and temperature, the bigger it grows. When mined, diamonds are in their crude form. They are then cut and polished before being sold as gemstones or set as jewelry. The quality and rarity of a diamond is decided predominantly by its 4Cs. The 4Cs stand for cut, color, carat, and clarity. These 4C represent angles and proportions of a diamond, the degree to which the diamond is colorless, the weight of the diamond, and the presence of inclusions in the diamond, respectively. The more immaculate the 4Cs, the more expensive the diamond gets. Every diamond is unique from another and is at least 900 million years old. Diamonds exist in quite a few colors, red being the rarest. Few diamonds have become famous by themselves for various reasons, and the world has approximately 261 such famous diamonds. The Cullinan diamond, for example, is said to be the largest diamond and is roughly 3106.75 carats. The Kohinoor diamond from India is said to bring bad luck to the male wearer of the diamond. Similarly, every other famous diamond has a story or belief to narrate.
