A helmet is a protective headgear, generally made of metal or other solid substances. It is usually worn by firefighters, soldiers, cyclists, mineworkers, and others involved in risky occupations and sports. The motorcycle helmet is worn by the motorcyclist to protect his head from injuries, during an accident. These helmets can also have extra protection such as face shields, and ear protection. It is widely accepted that this headgear can reduce injuries and deaths in motorcycle accidents and so several countries including the U. S. have stringent legislations imposing the compulsory wearing of helmets. These laws give good business to helmet manufacturers such as AGV Spa.

AGC or Amisano Gino started manufacturing bicycle saddles and leather seats in Valenza, Italy, soon after World War II. A couple of years later, this company entered into the motorcycle helmet arena. They developed their first open-face helmet (with a leather shell), in 1949. In 1953, they introduced the first fiberglass vulcanized helmets. In its endeavor to assist in the attainment of the optimum safety standards, AGV invested heavily in the 'Clinica Mobile' project in 1977, which provided emergency care to injured motorcycle riders.
