Go-Cart

Go-carting also spelled 'Go-Karting' is a sport or a leisure pursuit involving riding a small motorized vehicle around a predetermined track. The Go-Kart is a small vehicle, which has four wheels and has a simple sport motor. Depending on the design they are called Karts, Go-Karts and gearbox, or shifter Karts. Generally, these vehicles must not have a differential, which is a solid back axle or a suspension, relying instead on the chassis flex. Go-karts are driven by both professionals on a scaled down track or by non-professionals as a hobby. Karting can become a stepping stone for those who aspire to become champions in higher and more expensive motor sports such as the Formula 1 competitions. The first Kart was built in 1956, in Southern California, USA, by Art Ingels (an expert rodder) and Kurtis craft (a race car builder). This Kart had a simple construction and framework. The car was assembled with a set of semi pneumatic tires, one rear wheel being driven by a bicycle chain. Eventually, Karting spread in many countries and today Europe has a large following. The chassis is an important part of the Go-Kart. The chassis should be flexible, doubling as a suspension, and at the same time rigid enough not break during a turn. The chassis can be of various makes, such as 'open', 'caged', 'straight', or 'offset'. Racing Karts generally use a small engine. However various types of engines are available, ranging from 2- stroke to 4-stroke. This vehicle does not have a differential, but it has fixed gearing which determines their top speed, which is usually about 60 mph (100km/hr) to 105 mph (160 km/hr). Tires on go-kart are smaller than those on a normal car.
